NHL Rumours: Philadelphia Flyers Goalie Possibly Available

Carter Hart trade

It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours. The Philadelphia Flyers have dropped the hammer and fired Chuck Fletcher last week. Interim general manager Daniel Briere addressed the media Sunday morning and said it’s going to be a process. Briere wants to do things the right way and finally rebuild after years. He did state there are good players on the team, but there could be one huge name made available. Is there a possible Carter Hart trade in the offing? Today’s NHL rumours takes a look at that possibility.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Carter Hart Trade Possible From Flyers?

Rumour: Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek discussed the possibility of Hart being available in the off-season on the 32 Thoughts podcast. Friedman said there’s a chance the 24-year-old netminder would get traded in order to get some assets. Starting goaltending is hard to come by and the Sherwood Park, Alberta native could help a team out.

Friedman and Marek discussed other names like Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny as possible off-season moves, but Hart was the one that would grab headlines. The insiders agreed that anyone with two or three years left on their deals are a possible trade candidate. Hart has played in 48 games this season and has a 2.96 goals against average and a .906 save percentage. The possible seems to be more a timeline issue than a level-of-play issue.

Who Would Want to Make a Carter Hart Trade

There are a number that would love to get their hand on the former IIHF WJC gold medalist for Canada. Could a team like the Montreal Canadiens make a push for him to be the heir to Carey Price? Hart is under contract until the end of next season with a cap hit of just under $4 million. He would be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.

The Flyers also have 23-year-old Sam Ersson ready to go if the Flyers do part with Hart. Trading a young goalie may be very questionable, but there could be a massive haul awaiting Philadelphia if it’s that bold. However, it could set up another team for success.
