Owen Beck Called Up

uOwen Beck has been called up to the Canadian World Juniors team after Colton Dach left the game with an upper-body injury after taking an awkward hit during Canada’s 5-1 win against Sweden on New Year’s Eve.

Owen Beck Called Up

after losing Colton Dach to injury, Canada called up a player who some argue should’ve been on the team from day 1; Owen Beck.

Beck, who was picked 33rd overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the  Montreal Canadiens currently plays for the Mississauga Steelheads and is having a great year with them. So far, he has recorded 40 points in 30 games and is on pace to notch 85, beating his previous total by more than half.

Dach has been decent with the Canadian U-20 team so far. He posted two points in four games before being injured. Dach is most infamously the brother of Kirby Dach.

What This Means

For Canada, this is a move that doesn’t scare many. Beck has been a fantastic player for Mississauga this year. He was one of the many highlights at the Canadiens’ Training camp this past September.

It is a massive blow to Team Canada to lose Dach’s 6’4″ frame. However, Beck will add yet another element of offensive skill to the game that will help Canada.

Although there are no set lines yet, it is expected that he will be somewhere in the top six. He’ll go with players like Logan Stankoven, Connor Bedard, Dylan Guenther. This is considering Beck’s offensive ability in the OHL this year, although it is unknown.

Beck’s first game with Team Canada is on January 2nd, where they play a quarterfinal game against Slovakia, who currently sits with a 2-1-1 record compared to Canada’s 3-1-0 record. Owen Beck being called up is a good thing for the hosts.
