Washington Capitals Winger Makes History

Alex Ovechkin 800 goals

History has officially been made. Washington Capitals super star winger Alex Ovechkin has joined the 800 goal club. In tonights matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks, he becomes the third player in NHL History to reach that total. He had a hat trick in that game to reach the marker. Ovechkin now sits one goal behind Gordie Howe for second all-time.

Alex Ovechkin Gets 800 Goals

It feels like a lifetime ago when the Washington Capitals drafted forward Alexander Ovechkin. And it feels like ages ago, he scored his first career goal. In addition to the first one, he scored 799 more. His historic pace continues, and now that he has reached 800, the chase to 894 grows closer and closer.

Ovechkin’s Goal Scoring

Ovechkin has scored a bunch of goals. In addition, he has also scored a bunch of different goaltenders tending the crease. To this date, the Russian has scored against 165 different goaltenders which is third highest behind Jaromir Jagr and Patrick Marleau. He has also scored the most goals with any franchise. The Great Eight has been consistent with his goal scoring making him one of the greatest pure goal scorers. He has tied Wayne Gretzky for the most 50 goal seasons (9) and became the oldest player to complete the task. The coolest part is that longtime line mate Nicklas Backstrom has assisted on 183 of them.

Ovechkin also loves his office. And what I mean is on the power play at the face off circle. The man has already surpassed Dave Andreychuk for the record and has 292 playoff goals. He has been a treat to watch, and now everyone is cheering for 895.

The Great Eight Chasing History

Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin has made history. Reaching 800 goals is a great accomplishment to have. But the work is not complete. Now he’s coming for The Great One to become the player with the most goals scored. Enjoy this while you can, because who knows when we will see consistent elite scoring such as this.
