NHL Trades, Goalies, and More

Alex and Chace are back with another week of content. Today, Chace is recording from an airport because he is on the way to SEAHAC 2022, which is a hockey analytics conference. However, the guys still have a ton to discuss that happened this week. Including some NHL trades that saw Ryan Reaves get moved, as well as Connor Timmins. First, they start off with a massive signing that took place.

The guys give their thoughts on both and what it means for all four teams involved. After that, they discuss Auston Matthews and Alex asks a question about is he really playing worse than last season or is it just a lazy narrative driven by shooting percentage. From there, they look at some teams that have had struggling goalies. Discussing whether even stats people don’t put enough into how rare elite goaltending can be.

Finally, the guys team up for a game of name that captain. Going through all 32 teams and naming their captain. Can you beat their score of 31/32? Also, the one they forget is pretty surprising.

Who are Alex and Chace? Alex and Chace are both from the Waterloo region in Ontario, Canada. Both of them grew up playing hockey and shortly after fell in love with analyzing it. Chace is a noted Leafs and Penguins fan, while Alex is a die-hard Senators fan. You can find Alex’s work at LastWordOnHockey.com, including his other podcast, The Last Word on Sens Podcast.
