Cedric Paquette Suspended For Boarding Ducks Forward Trevor Zegras

The hit happened on Sunday’s game against the Ducks, midway through the first period. Paquette was immediately given a game misconduct penalty and a major penalty for the boarding. Meanwhile, Zegras also left the game after the hit but was back on the bench in the second period and finished the game.

Paquette signed with the Montreal Canadiens during the last off-season. The 27-year-old began the 2020-21 season with the Ottawa Senators before being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning with the 101st overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft. Before signing in Ottawa, Paquette was a member of the Lightning for seven seasons and helped the team win their second Stanley Cup in 2020.

He isn’t the best contributor offensively, having no points in eight games so far this season. However, Montreal is already without Mathieu Perreault and their centre depth is not the best. Now they’ll have to figure out their lineup to cover both Paquette’s and Perreault’s spots.

Cole Caulfield Sent to AHL Laval Rockets

In addition to the Paquette news, the Montreal Canadiens announced that rookie forward Cole Caufield has been assessed to the AHL. This move has been criticized by many people but is for the best. The Habs have not been playing well and this affects the younger players more than anyone else. Caufield has not been producing the way he is expected to, having only one point in 10 games. That point is an assist and, even though that’s better than nothing, it is still uncommon for him. Being in the AHL for a few games will give both the team and the rookie time to readjust and regain confidence.
