Mikkel Boedker

After 12 years in the National Hockey League, the Danish forward and former Ottawa Senator Mikkel Boedker will be heading over to Europe for the 2020-21 season. HC Lugano, a team located in Switerzland, has signed Boedker to play in the Swiss National League for the next season.

Mikkel Boedker Signs With HC Lugano

Boedker was selected eighth overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Arizona Coyotes (then Phoenix). While playing in the NHL, Boedker was able to play for 12 long years and four different teams in the NHL. During that time, Boedker has played for the Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, and most recently the Ottawa Senators. He has put up 118 goals and 209 assists for 327 career points in 709 career games.

Last season Boedker scored two goals and two assists for four points in 20 games, he also had zero penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 44.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -5.3.

Looking Towards the Future

Back in April, NHL.com Staff Writer Mike G. Morreale reported that the Ottawa Senators organization would not partake in any contract negotiations during the season pause. With Boedker becoming a pending unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, it comes to no real surprise this happened.

Senators general manager Pierre Dorion mentioned he wants to wait till the league decides on the season. With that being said, at this rate who knows when that could be. It has been over 60 days since we had a live sports event in North America. With everyone itching for some action, Boedker had to do what is best for himself and his family. It is hard to say how many more season Boedker had left in the tank. This seems like the right move given the situation at hand.
