San Jose Sharks Sign Brinson Paschinuk

Brinson Paschinuk College Free Agents

The San Jose Sharks signed collegiate free agent defenceman Brinson Paschinuk to a two-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not released as of this time. This contract carries him through the 2020-21 season if he burns his first year when play resumes. The contract will run until 2021-22 if he waits until next season.

Brinson Paschinuk Signs With the Sharks

The Bonnyville, Alberta native scored 39 goals and 107 points in his four-year career with the Arizona State Sun Devils in NCAA hockey. He was a team captain this season for the Sun Devils, who finished 22-11-3 and may have made the NCAA tournament if not for the COVID-19 outbreak.

Last season he scored 11 goals and 26 assists for 37 points in 36 games. He attended the Sharks development cap last summer with his brother, Steenn, who also just finished his senior campaign with the Tempe, Ariz-based school.

Pasichnuk was featured in part four of our look at the top collegiate free agents. He is six-foot, 185 pounds and has a very good slapshot. It was very surprising that he wasn’t selected in his draft year.

What This Means for the Future

The Sharks may be starting a rebuild and a young player like Pasichnuk could be a key part of that. He has very good vision and can be a playmaker on the blue line for San Jose.

The 22-year-old also is a quick skater and is a good stickhandler. He’s worked hard to improve his defensive game and has gotten better at picking his spots. Pasichnuk is more selective at when he jumps into the rush to provide offensive support.

San Jose’s scouting department may have unearthed a gem that can come in and fight for a roster spot. He could be someone that contributes and earns a spot in the lineup if he keeps developing his game.
