Filip Zadina of Detroit Red Wings Sustains Lower-Body Injury

Filip Zadina

The Detroit Red Wings announced that right-wing Filip Zadina is sidelined for two to three weeks with a lower-body injury.

Filip Zadina Injured

Zadina did not appear to sustain an injury in his last game, so the news comes as a shock to Red Wings fans. It was likely a result of an incident at practise or off the ice completely.

So far this season, Zadina has scored eight goals and seven assists for 15 points to go along with two minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 45.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 0.3 percent.

Over his two-year NHL career, Zadina has played exclusively for the Red Wings. He has nine goals and nine assists for 18 career points in 37 career games. He was originally drafted by the Red Wings in the first round, sixth overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

What This Means for the Future

During a season where most Red Wing fans are looking forward to welcoming Alexis Lafreniere to Motown, Zadina has served as a reminder of what the organization’s future already has to offer. Bouncing up and down between Detroit and the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins all year, Zadina has managed to squeak into 28 games with Detroit and hasn’t looked entirely out of place. The recall was expected to be permanent due to his play, but this injury certainly serves as a roadblock.

Zadina’s development for Detroit is crucial, and his ice time has skyrocketed in recent games. All year, Zadina’s had chances to adjust to NHL play and has taken them all in stride. While his injury is likely inconsequential to the success of the team now, Zadina’s ability to get into games and get more comfortable with NHL ice will give his development a boost and help the team down the road.
