Shane Wright Signs OHL Contract with Kingston Frontenacs

Shane Wright

Exceptional player Shane Wright signed his OHL contract with the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday. Second-round pick Francesco Arcuri and third-round selection Maddox Callens also signed their respective deals on Friday.

Shane Wright to Play for Frontenacs

Wright was the top choice in the OHL Priority Selection Draft in March. He was the sixth Canadian skater to be given exceptional player status. John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day and Joe Veleno are other players that have gotten this distinction.

Wright scored 66 goals and 84 assists for 150 points in 72 games for the Don Mills Flyers Midget AAA team of the GTHL. He also led Team Ontario to a silver medal at the 2019 Canada Winter Games. He provided six goals and six assists for 12 points in six games.

Arcuri and Wright were teammates on the Don Mills Flyers. He scored 34 goals and 64 assists with Don Mills in the regular season and added 4 goals and 9 assists at the OHL Cup.

Callens scored 25 goals and 27 assists for the Brantford 99ers and was a third-round selection of the Frontenacs and 43rd overall selection in the draft.

What it Means for the Future

The Fronts are loading up for the future and may finally move up the standings. Kingston finished dead last in the league, but these three picks will help immensely.

The Frontenacs franchise has the second-longest championships drought in the OHL and the fourth-longest in the CHL. Kingston last won the Leyden Trophy for Eastern Division champs in 2015-16. The Fronts last made the conference final in 1992-93.

Wright has been the talk of the junior ranks since he got exceptional player status. The other two top picks will help Kingston for sure. However, Wright could be the spark Kingston needs.

He’ll be training with former NHLer and training guru Gary Roberts at Limitless Transitions Systems for the third summer in a row.
