Vegas Golden Knights Marc-Andre Fleury Out Day-to-Day

2018 Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights have announced that star goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury will be out day-to-day with a lower-body injury. In turn, the club has recalled goaltender Maxime Lagace from the AHL Chicago Wolves.

It’s uncertain when the injury occurred for Fleury, as he played on Friday night and made 40 saves for a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars.

In 59 appearances this season, Fleury holds a record of 35-19-5. He has a 2.46 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage with eight shutouts. He is currently on a six-game win streak, which has helped the Golden Knights build a five-point lead on the Arizona Coyotes for third in the Pacific.

Over his career, Fleury has a record of 439-248-2-75 (two ties before the NHL brought in the shootout.) He has a career goals-against average of 2.55 and a save percentage of .913 with 56 shutouts.

Fleury was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, first overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

He was acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights in the expansion.

What This Means for the Future

The injury to Fleury couldn’t have come at a worse time as the team tries to stay ahead of the Arizona Coyotes in the standings. However, Fleury is only listed as day-to-day and Lagace was listed as an emergency recall, so the injury doesn’t figure to be too serious.

It should also be mentioned that Fleury is expecting the arrival of his third child. There is a chance that Fleury would have been away from the team for a game or two regardless. Hopefully for the sake of the Golden Knights, Fleury is not out much longer than that.

With Fleury out, Malcolm Subban will take over the brunt of the workload until he returns. In 12 appearances this season, Subban has a record of 4-7 with a goals-against average of 3.13 and a save percentage of .902.

Subban will go to work Sunday night as the Golden Knights play host to Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
