Kieran Trippier Newcastle United Deal Close as Magpies Continue to Seek Reinforcements

Kieran Trippier Newcastle

The Kieran Trippier Newcastle United deal is close to being completed, Keith Downie of Sky Sports has reported as the Magpies look to bolster their squad in the January transfer window, with Eddie Howe looking to keep the club in the Premier League. With the new Saudi backed owners there is no doubt that the money is plentiful. But now Howe has to make the right choices with time not on his side.

The First of Many Reinforcements?

Trippier won the La Liga title in the 2020/21 season and was also named as part of the La Liga team of the year as has impressed during his time at Atletico Madrid since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2019. His performances have constantly brought attention and rumours linking him with a return to the Premier League. And it now looks as though it will be Newcastle United who give him that return, but this is not the only signing they want to make.

Diego Simeone Accepts Kieran Trippier Desire to Leave for Newcastle

Trippier featured in Atletico’s 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday 2 July and it appeared that the English defender was waving his final goodbyes at the final whistle. Manager Diego Simeone spoke after the match of how if a player wants to leave then there is little that can be done regardless of a desire to keep him: “As I said the other day, it always depends on the footballer to what can happen. We want him and hope he stays with us but it is clear today that when a player wants to leave he can’t be retained.”

Who Else Might Join the Rich North East Club?

When a club has the funds that Newcastle United now have at their disposal, there will always be rumours and Newcastle fans will get used to being linked to every player that may or may not be available. Other players linked with Newcastle are Arsenal rebel Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard, who is struggling to get time at Old Trafford.
