Player Found Guilty Over 2018 Attack

Former Bayern Munich and German international defender Boateng denied that he had assaulted his ex partner and mother of his twin girls in 2018 whilst the family were on holiday, but he has now been found guilty at a trial.

Hi partner told the court that that Boateng had hit her so hard that she was struggling for her breath, according to BBC news.

Boateng, however, maintained his innocence throughout the hearing.

Prison Sentence Avoided

Prior to the trial, prosecutors accused Boateng of of wilful bodily harm as well as throwing a cool box at her and a lamp during an argument in the Caribbean in 2018.

Boateng claimed that things had gotten out of hand during a game of cards, but described a different version of events, saying that it was his partner who had instigated the violence and started hitting him. He told court that, in retaliation, he threw a pillow at her and that knocked a lamp onto the floor.

Despite the guilty verdict, Boateng has not been served with a prison sentence despite German domestic violence laws stating he could have faced anywhere up to five years in prison.

Former World Cup and Bundesliga title winner, and now current Lyon defender, Boateng has been ordered to pay a fine of £1.5 million to his victim and is said to be unlikely to appeal the verdict.
