Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has officially replaced the injured Dean Henderson in the England squad. The Manchester United man is suffering with a continuous hip injury which has eventually ended his tournament before even making an appearance. One mans’ disappointment is another mans’ chance to shine, however. And Ramsdale will be desperate to impress.
Despite suffering back to back relegations with Bournemouth and Sheffield United respectively, the shotstopper has impressed at times. In a way, the fact that he has played for sides more prone to conceding chances has helped him. It has allowed Ramsdale to showcase his ability; an ability Gareth Southgate is clearly impressed with.

Jordan Pickford: The Outright Number One After Dean Henderson Injury
Many will be quick to suggest that Jordan Pickford should not be the top choice to play between the England sticks due to his club form. For country, however, he has never put a foot wrong. In the 2018 World Cup, he was the hero in the penalty shootout against Columbia. And, since then, he has undoubtedly been the man for the job.
If he ever did carry his Everton form over to the national side, then big questions would be asked. But the point is, Pickford has been like a different player when representing the Three Lions. Now, with Dean Henderson injured and out of the Euros, the Everton man will likely play ever game.
There is a small chance that, with so many games in a short amount of time, Southgate will opt to rest Pickford in favour of Sam Johnstone or maybe even Aaron Ramsdale. Both keepers, especially Johnstone, have done enough to warrant a chance, but it will come down to the circumstance of the match at hand.
As for Southgate, he’ll be desperate to avoid any further injury issues following Henderson’s withdrawal.
