After training with the club in recent weeks, Nile Ranger looks set to be offered another chance at Southend United, according to Chris Phillips of the Echo. The forward has been without a club since being released from Roots Hall in January 2018 following ill-discipline.
With the predicament, Southend are in, a striker is what they need. Nile Ranger has had his chances before in blue and looks set to be offered one final career lifeline at Roots Hall.
The Shrimpers need a miracle to avoid relegation and, considering Ranger hasn’t played for three years, he may not be able to provide that miracle.

A Risky Move
When taking a look at Nile Ranger’s career, a lack of discipline is apparent. Every time he is offered a lifeline, he blows through avoidable mistakes. His ability, at one point, could not be put into question. Instead, it is his attitude which has held him back for the majority of his career.
Now, with Southend needing a hero, they look set to turn to an unlikely source in what would be Ranger’s third time making a move to Roots Hall.
As things stand, Mark Molesley’s side sit bottom of League Two having scored the least amount of goals in the division. A man to put an end to those goalscoring woes is needed; Nile Ranger could be that man.
Southend Facing the Drop
Having suffered relegation to League Two last season, Southend are set for back-to-back relegations due to a transfer embargo, poor recruitment and an injury-hit season.
They currently sit ten points adrift of safety and almost nailed on for relegation.
Speaking about potential incomings, including Ranger, Southend manager Mark Molesley said: “I’ve been working with Nile behind the scenes away from the group.
“We’ve put him on a fitness programme and he’s worked really hard.
“But it will be up to Nile Ranger. If he wants to carry on and work hard there might be an offer for him.
“It’s still early days but he has been working hard.”
