Football Transfer Rumours: City Still Hopeful of Signing Messi
Manchester City’s MLS Link Could Prove Key
When attempting to do the almost unthinkable by securing the signature of Messi in the summer, Manchester City’s link with the MLS could prove key as they look to make a one of many transfer rumours an official statement.
In a recent interview with La Sexta, the 33-year-old stated his desire to play in America, saying: “I would like to play in the United States and experience life and the league there, but ultimately come back to Barcelona in some capacity. I’m not thinking too far ahead in the short term and just want to see how the season finishes.”
With Messi’s desire to play in the MLS stated, Manchester City could convince the forward to complete a move to Manchester first. City’s Abu Dhabi owners own an MLS club as part of their Football Group Stable, leaving them with a potential plan which could suit Messi.
According to the Telegraph, the owners are known to be working on a long term plan which would involve offering Messi a place in the MLS with Ney York City after a spell in the Premier League.
The move would certainly suit all parties. Messi would be getting the opportunity to light up the Premier League with Manchester City, in addition to a later chance to conquer America. Meanwhile, City would be getting the opportunity to witness perhaps the greatest player to ever play the game.
