REPORT: Trent Alexander-Arnold to Miss Four Weeks Through Injury

Alexander-Arnold injury

After being forced off through injury in the second half of a 1-1 draw against Manchester City, Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss the next four weeks of action, according to Paul Joyce of The Times. Luckily for Liverpool, two of these weeks will be the international break, meaning that the fullback will, therefore, miss less action that what would usually have been expected for the Reds.

The news will be a blow for Gareth Southgate, who will be without the Liverpool man for games against the Republic of Ireland and Nations League games against Belgium and Iceland.

Opportunity for Others Within England Ranks

As already mentioned, the news of Alexander-Arnold’s injury will act as a huge blow for Gareth Southgate and England. Yet, it has to be said, as one injury blow occurs, an opportunity for another player presents itself, particularly to Chelsea’s Reece James.

The young fullback has previously been preferred at right-back to that of Alexander-Arnold and, in the Liverpool man’s absence, can further solidify his place in Southgate’s starting plans ahead of the Euros next year.

The likes of Kieran Trippier and, even the always versatile Ainsley Maitland-Niles, could also use this news as an opportunity to step up into an England place, competing with Reece James in the process.

Alexander-Arnold Injury Last Thing Liverpool Need

The news could have been far worse, yes, so too the timing, but, the injury still acts as a major blow for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp who have already lost a handful of defenders through injury this season, including main man Virgil van Dijk for the season.

Now, once the international break comes to a close, the Reds will need to turn once more to the bench, and perhaps, James Milner or Neco Williams to fill in for the out of action star fullback.
