This week gave many of Liverpool’s loan players a much-needed break ahead of a busy winter. November’s international period is the final one until March. For those lucky enough to be selected for their national sides, this weekend saw them have the opportunity to impress on a global stage. In this week’s Liverpool Loan Report, a goalkeeper makes his return to action, a wing-back misses out on selection, and a winger helps his nation to an important win.
Liverpool Loan Report: International Opportunities for Reds Youngsters
Giorgi Mamardashvili – Valencia
Giorgi Mamardashvili played his first game in nearly three weeks as his Georgia side drew 1-1 with Ukraine. Valencia have seen their last four games postponed as a result of floods in Spain. The 24-year-old made three saves and completed 89% of his passes in his return to action, not showing any rust. Georgia face Czechia on Tuesday, November 19 as they look to gain promotion to Nations League, League A.
Ben Doak – Middlesbrough
After making his debut in September, Ben Doak has become a regular for Scotland this season. The 19-year-old played 92 minutes as his side recorded a vital 1-0 over Croatia in the Nations League. The winger continued the good form he’s shown for Middlesbrough this season, making two key passes and completing 90% of his pass attempts. Scotland will need a result against Poland on Monday, November 18 to keep their place in Nations League, League A.
Lewis Koumas – Stoke City
At 18 years old, Lewis Koumas is still only on the fringes of the Wales squad. The forward came off the bench in the 90th minute as his nation looked to find a winner against Turkey. The youngster managed three touches in his brief appearance and will hope to earn more involvement with some exciting displays for Stoke City over the next few months.
Stefan Bajcetic – RB Salzburg
Not quite experienced enough to be called up for the reigning European Champions, Stefan Bajcetic played for Spain’s U21 as they drew 0-0 with England. After replacing Pablo Barrios at half-time, the 20-year-old completed 86% of his passes and won 100% of his duels.

Earlier this week, Bajcetic revealed he must choose between representing RB Salzburg in the Club World Cup or Spain in the U21 European Championships this summer. The 20-year-old’s loan in Austria would have to be extended if he chooses to play in the revamped club competition.
Rhys Williams – Morecambe
Rhys Williams put in a solid defensive performance as Morecambe were unlucky to lose 1-0 to League Two leaders Port Vale. The big defender won nine of his twelve aerial duels as his side dealt with constant pressure from the visitors. The Shrimps have looked like an improved side in recent weeks and will look to continue their form when they travel to Swindon.
Luca Stephenson Unlucky to Miss Out on England U21 Call
One player who was unlucky to miss out on a call-up this week was Dundee United wing-back Luca Stephenson. The wing-back has been in great form in the Scottish Premiership this season, scoring three goals and registering two assists. The 21-year-old has not been involved with England at any level and a call-up to the U21 side would’ve been a deserved reward for his brilliant form.
