AC Milan’s Interest in Nicolas Füllkrug Confirmed as ‘Concrete’

The Rossoneri’s Serious Target

After signing Euro 2024 winner Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid, Plettenberg describes Milan’s interest in Niclas Füllkrug as “concrete”. The Rossoneri have identified the 31-year-old German forward as a serious target to reinforce their attacking lineup. Füllkrug’s impressive performances in the Bundesliga last season caught the attention of the scouting team.

With 12 goals and eight assists in 29 league appearances for Dortmund, he showcased his clinical finishing and ability to create chances for his teammates. The 31-year-old also featured for Germany at Euro 2024, scoring two goals in five appearances as a substitute.

Milan’s pursuit of the striker comes after Morata’s arrival at the San Siro. The Spanish striker’s medical has been completed, but the club remains keen on securing another forward. Füllkrug’s versatility – able to play as a central striker or in a supporting role – makes him an attractive proposition for Paulo Fonseca’s side. His experience and maturity could provide valuable depth to the squad, especially in European competitions.

Why Milan’s Interest in Füllkrug Makes Sense

Milan’s transfer target aligns well with their attacking philosophy. His intelligent movement off the ball, ability to hold up play, and clinical finishing could complement the pace and creativity of players like Rafael Leão, Christian Pulisic, and Samuel Chukwueze. The attacking workforce must balance individual flair and collective teamwork, whether it includes Füllkrug, Morata, or a combination of both.

Milan face tough competition in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. Having multiple quality forwards allows Fonseca to rotate his squad effectively, keeping players fresh throughout the season. Füllkrug’s experience in high-pressure situations could prove invaluable during crucial matches. His presence would also provide healthy competition for starting spots, motivating his attacking teammates like Morata and Noah Okafor to raise their game.

Füllkrug’s Impact Beyond the Pitch

Whilst the interest in Füllkrug mainly originates from his clinical finishing and overall link-up play with teammates, it may also seem that the Rossoneri’s motive to bring in the 31-year-old is beyond the pitch. Christian Pulisic’s £18.8 million move from Chelsea in July 2023 is a great example of Milan thinking about brand exposure. Since the 25-year-old arrived at the San Siro, sales of merchandise increased by a whopping 400% with his name and number being the top choice for fans purchasing shirts back in 2023.

American buyers now represent 43% of Milan’s sales, a significant increase from 9% before Pulisic’s arrival. Additionally, 90% of customized “Pulisic” shirts were sold in the US, and the marketing team can capitalise on Füllkrug’s profile, which in turn would attract new fans from Germany, enhance the club’s global brand, leveraging his popularity and social media presence to engage fans worldwide.
