Manchester United appear to be accelerating on their ambitions to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s squad after having handed him a new two-year contract extension recently. It now also seems that they might be on the verge of signing highly-rated defender Leny Yoro from Lille.
Manchester United Pushing To Finalise Leny Yoro Transfer
How Much Will United Pay for Yoro?
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that the 18-year-old defender is “flying to the UK to undergo a medical” and to also finalise the personal terms ahead of a proposed move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are currently pushing to get this deal over the line as soon as possible to ward off potential interest from Real Madrid.

Ornstein also states that United have agreed a deal with the French club to sign the teenage sensation for around £52 million. It’s added that his initial preference was to join the Spanish heavyweights, but they refused to pay a similar amount as the Premier League side. The journalist states that Yoro has now warmed to the idea of joining United and his latest steps indicate a desire to complete the switch once the terms of his contract are finalised.
What Will United Get in Yoro?
The Athletic states that the Red Devils consider the 18-year-old centre-back as a primary target after realising that he is regarded around Europe as being a “generational talent”. He made 44 appearances for Lille across all competitions last season, helping them keep 15 clean sheets in 32 Ligue 1 games. Yoro was hailed as “one of the best central defenders in Europe” by ex-Lille manager Paulo Fonseca, and United getting him over Real Madrid will be seen as a major coup.

The Red Devils have also been strongly linked with Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, but are struggling to agree an appropriate transfer fee for his signing. They have also reportedly had two bids rejected for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. United have been left short in the centre-back department after letting Raphael Varane leave as a free agent and selling youngster Willy Kambwala to Villarreal. They’ll hope to complete the signing of Yoro soon and make him their second summer transfer after Joshua Zirkzee.
