Next England Manager Odds: The Current Top Five Favourites
Graham Potter – 7/4
Former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter is currently without a job. An unsuccessful seven months in charge at Stamford Bridge may have given his reputation a knock; however, his impressive time at Brighton is still fresh in the minds of those in charge at the FA.
Since leaving Chelsea, Potter has rejected the chance to become Sweden’s head coach and also had discussions with both Ajax and Leicester City. His availability would appeal to the FA and should England come calling, it would be a huge surprise if Potter said no.
Lee Carsley – 9/4
The current England U21 head coach is highly thought of by the Football Association. The former Republic of Ireland international has been in charge of the under-21s since 2021 and two years later he guided the team to victory in the European Under-21 Championship final, beating Spain 1–0.
Carsley recently turned down the chance to take over as head coach of the Republic of Ireland. He could be in line to follow in Gareth Southgate’s footsteps and be promoted to the senior men’s national team following a spell with the U21s.
Eddie Howe – 11/4
The current Newcastle United manager has long been thought of as a future England manager. He impressed at Bournemouth where he led them to the Premier League and also at Newcastle where he guided them to the Champions League.
Despite currently having a contract until 2027 on Tyneside, the lure of the England job may be too hard for the 46-year-old to say no to should it be offered to him.
Mauricio Pochettino – 8/1
High profile, currently out of work and has a desire to manage in England again. These three alone could make him a firm favourite within the FA headquarters. The former Southampton, Tottenham, PSG and Chelsea boss was heavily linked with Manchester United; however, the contract extension given to Erik ten Hag halted any chance of the Argentine heading to Old Trafford in the short term at least.
Should Pochettino want the job he could have at least one person at the FA in his corner. Current FA technical director John McDermott has worked with him previously during their time together at Spurs.
Frank Lampard – 9/1
An outsider for the job and may only be approached should the FA fail in the attempts to secure other targets. A Chelsea legend on the pitch, Lampard has had a mixed bag of results during his managerial career.
His first season as a manager was at Derby County where he led them to the Championship Playoff final, departing for Chelsea soon after. He guided the Blues to fourth in the Premier League and an FA Cup final in his first season and despite topping their Champions League group and the Premier League in his second season, a run of poor results saw him sacked.
Lampard would keep Everton in the Premier League but was sacked the following season with the club back in another relegation fight. He returned to Chelsea as caretaker manager but managed just one win in 11 games.
