Scotland face off against international powerhouse Germany on June 14 at the Allianz Arena in Munich. This will be the opening game of Euro 2024, with the hosts undoubtedly starting as the big favourites to collect three points. The Tartan Army will be eager to cause a shock like they did against Spain on matchday 2 in qualification. Here is our Scotland predicted lineup for the tournament curtain raiser.
Scotland Predicted Lineup vs. Germany
How Scotland Have Lined-up Recently
Scotland mostly line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation with Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn in goal. Steve Clarke has unfortunately lost his two preferred right-backs, meaning he now needs to select either Ross McCrorie or Anthony Ralston, with both appearing in warm-up games. Andy Robertson, the Liverpool left-back will seemingly start in his favoured position and be a mainstay of this side. The centre-backs have been selected from between Jack Hendry, Ryan Porteous, Kieran Tierney, Grant Hanley and Scott McKenna.

In midfield, in the final qualification games and pre-tournament friendlies, we have seen Billy Gilmour, Scot McTominay and Callum McGregor used in the deeper double pivot, with Ryan Christie and John McGinn appearing in the more advanced roles in recent games.
In attack, it’s mainly been Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, who scored his team’s second goal in the 2-2 draw with Finland on June 7. But we believe a Premier League striker will get the nod in attack for the opening game.
Scotland Recent Form and Tactics
The Tartan Army looked set to record a much-needed confidence-boosting win against Finland on June 7, before letting a two-goal lead slip. Before that, only a win against Gibraltar had come since their 3-0 success vs. Cyprus on September 8, 2023.

It’s been a tough build-up for Clarke’s men, which included heavy defeats against Netherlands and France, but he will be eager to conjure up the inspired spirit and ability the team showed against Spain. Scotland have encountered injuries in the build-up, but they have a settled look about them with the formation.
Scotland Injuries to Consider
Injuries to right-backs Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson have left the Tartan Army short in that area. Impressive midfield man Lewis Ferguson will also miss the tournament following an anterior cruciate ligament tear. Lydon Dykes whose press from the front was vital during qualification, will also be missing after suffering an ankle ligament injury in training.
