Tottenham Hotspur Announce ‘Massive’ Forward as First Summer Signing

Tottenham Aiming to Sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bounce back from an underwhelming end to the 2023/24 season by acting swiftly and efficiently in the summer transfer window. Now it appears that they have finalized their ‘first signing’ of the 2024 summer window in the form of Timo Werner.

Tottenham Hotspur Confirm Timo Werner Return

Werner Set for Another Loan Spell at Tottenham

Tottenham have confirmed that Werner has been re-signed on a new loan deal for the entirety of the 2024/25 season. In their official statement, they stated: “We are delighted to announce an agreement for Timo Werner to rejoin us on loan from RB Leipzig for the 2024/25 season, with an option to make the deal permanent. Signed on loan from the Bundesliga side in January, the German international forward was a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s team in the second half of last season.”

Fabrizio Romano hints that Tottenham can permanently sign Werner in 2025 for a fee of around £12.7 million. The ex-Chelsea winger is also happy to stay and prove himself with the North London club after a successful six-month loan spell.

What Role Will Werner Play at Tottenham?

Werner arrived at Tottenham in the 2024 winter transfer window on a short-term deal and managed to fit into Ange Postecoglou’s system pretty well. He made 14 appearances for Tottenham, scoring two goals and providing three assists before suffering a thigh injury that ruled him out of action for the final stretch of the campaign.

But the 25-year-old’s performances were bright enough to convince Postecoglou and the Spurs chiefs to bring him back on another deal. Werner, who was praised for his “massive” experience by Tottenham technical director Johan Lange earlier this year, will need to work hard to earn a starting role in Spurs starting XI next season. That is because he might face competition for that position from Son Heung-min, especially if Spurs are able to sign a quality centre-forward to play up-front. Werner also needs to stay clear of injuries and be consistent with his goal contributions for a successful loan spell and convince the Lilywhites to sign him on a permanent basis in 2025.
