Chelsea are reaching the advanced stages of finding their Mauricio Pochettino replacement and appointing a new head coach as soon as possible. Now, it appears that they have taken a major step towards the appointment of Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca.

What Are The Terms Of Maresca’s Move To Chelsea?
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea have struck a total agreement to appoint Maresca as their new manager. He also adds that that the “agreement is now done” and that the Italian boss will be receiving a five year contract that is valid until 2029. There will also be an option to extend that until 2030 if needed. The club will, of course, have to pay a compensation fee to Leicester for his services.

The Telegraph’s John Percy has reported that the London side will need to pay the Foxes a compensation fee of around £10 million to be able to land the Italian as their next boss. It is also added that the Chelsea board considers Maresca as the “ideal fit” for them and that they’ve been particularly impressed with the Leicester City manager’s obsession with possession-based football.
What Can Maresca Bring To Chelsea?
The 44-year-old manager had a pretty good playing career, making over 400 appearances and being part of Juventus’ 2001/02 Serie A winning squad. Maresca started his coaching career at Manchester City, where he worked as an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola and learned about the aspects of managing from him. He had a short stint as the Parma head coach before joining Leicester City in June, 2023.

Maresca started gaining a reputation as a bright coach by changing Leicester’s fortunes after they dropped down to the Championship. He actually spent the first few months of his time at Leicester in their training ground and worked hard to implement a possession-heavy, attacking style. He kept the Foxes going strongly in the Championship title race and won the league title over the likes of Ipswich Town and Leeds United.
They won 31 of their 46 matches, scoring 89 goals and the manager had an impressive 67.92% win rate in his first season as head coach. He was hailed as “incredible” by Harry Winks for his impressive work and will now take up his first major assignment as the new Chelsea boss.
