No Late Salvation

The decision to sack the manager comes after sticking with him through a tumultuous campaign where there were some extremely poor runs of form. Chelsea secured European football for the next season thanks to an impressive run of eight victories and four draws in 13 league matches from the start of March. The Blues’ improved form intensified rumours about a potential decision to keep Pochettino. However, on Tuesday night, Chelsea officially announced the Argentine manager’s departure.

The club will now look to appoint a new boss as they prepare for the next campaign.

Chelsea’s Manager Short-List

In recent months, a host of managers from across Europe have been linked with a summer move to Chelsea. The likes of Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi have come closer than others to replacing Pochettino.

However, the Telegraph have named Girona’s Michel, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca, and Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness as the candidates to take charge at Stamford Bridge ahead of the next season. According to Fabrizio Romano, Brentford manager Thomas Frank is also on the list.

Notably, the short-list doesn’t include Thomas Tuchel, who confirmed his departure from Bayern Munich last week. The former Chelsea manager is reportedly prioritizing a move back to the Premier League.

The Blues could face competition for their desired managerial targets from other elite sides this summer. Bayern Munich are searching for a new manager, while the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona could also enter the market for new managers.
