Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is included in Portugal’s 26-man squad for this summer’s European Championships. The 27-year-old will travel to Germany on the back of an injury-ridden campaign.
Diogo Jota Secures Portugal Spot Ahead of Euro 2024
A Tough Season
Jota scored four goals in Liverpool’s first 13 games of the 2023/24 season before suffering a muscle injury in December. He made an impressive return later that month, directly contributing to eight goals in seven matches.

However, another injury kept Jota out again, this time for two months. The former Wolves star finally made his comeback in April, hoping he could help the Reds in the title run-in, but he suffered another knock that kept him out of action until the end of the season.
Reacting to his injury problems in an interview with Shaun Murphy, he said: “I had a knee injury at the beginning of the year, and now I came back but got injured again.
“It’s so frustrating, especially when you feel like the team needs you. We were fighting for a lot of titles and you can’t play.”

Jota made his return to Liverpool’s matchday squad in the final game of the term, where the Reds defeated his former side 2-0. He must now prepare to play for Portugal in their bid to win the European Championship in Germany.
Portugal Announce Euro 2024 Squad
On Tuesday, Roberto Martinez announced his 26-man squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament. As expected, Cristiano Ronaldo maintains his place in the national team, hoping to claim the continental trophy for the second time in his career.

Martinez has also named Jota among the selected forwards despite his stop-start campaign. The Liverpool star will compete against Rafael Leao and Joao Felix for a place in Portugal’s starting lineup.
