Adrian Discusses His Plans to Leave Liverpool

Adrián began his career playing with Spanish side Real Betis initially with the club’s youth sides, before making his debut with the first team in 2012. In 2013, he moved to England, joining West Ham United. After his release from West Ham, he signed with Liverpool in 2019, winning a Premier League title in his first season.

Speaking to Movistar Plus+ in an interview relayed by Muchodeporte,  The 37-year-old announced his desire to return to La Liga.

“I would like to return to La Liga after 11 seasons in the Premier League. It would be the end of a cycle,” he explained.

“I’m still ready to compete. I feel very good despite being 37. You know that goalkeepers, if you take good care of yourself, if you haven’t had any serious injuries lately and you’re fine, the daily training gives you that intensity that makes you compete.”

However, Adrian did add: “I haven’t sat down with Liverpool yet either” indicating a possibility of a contract renewal.

“I don’t rule out that we could have a pending conversation, but it is true that we will be looking out of the corner of our eye to see what happens in La Liga.”

The Spaniard was linked with Betis earlier in 2021 as they do not mind ageing goalkeepers considering the fact their current goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is 41 years old. Adrian has not made any appearance for Liverpool this season and has made a total of 26 appearances since his arrival at the club in 2019 and Klopp’s departure at the end of the season could be the sign he needs to move on to the next chapter of his career.

Injury Marred Thiago Departs

Thiago Alcantara, the Spanish international, is set to leave the Reds at the end of the season. Thiago joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020 and has since made 98 appearances for the club. His technical skills and experience have been invaluable to the team. However, his last season has been marred by injuries. After missing the first six months due to a hip issue, he returned to action in February but suffered a muscle problem that has kept him sidelined since.

His departure will leave a significant gap in the midfield. As the club prepares for his exit, the focus will be on finding a suitable replacement or promoting young talent from the academy to fill his shoes. Thiago’s exit marks the end of an era at Liverpool, and his contributions to the team will be remembered fondly by fans and teammates alike.

Veteran Defender Joel Matip Bids Farewell

Joel Matip, the Cameroonian centre-back, is also set to bid farewell to Liverpool at the end of the season. Matip joined Liverpool from Schalke in 2016 and has since made 201 appearances, scoring 11 goals. His towering presence and defensive prowess have been instrumental in Liverpool’s success over the years. However, his last season was impacted by an ankle ligament injury that he sustained in December, which has kept him out of action.

Matip’s departure will leave a significant gap in their defence. The club will now need to either find a suitable replacement in the transfer market or promote young talent from the academy. The defender’s contributions will also be remembered fondly by the fans and his teammates.
