Manchester United are gearing up for their last four games of the disappointing 2023/24 season which begins with their home game against Arsenal at Old Trafford. However, ahead of that game, Erik ten Hag has delivered some gutting news on the status of Mason Mount.
Manchester United Confirm New Injury Blow For Mason Mount
What Happened To Mount And Luke Shaw?
The Red Devils’ manager has confirmed that Mount is out of action again after sustaining a new injury following their recent 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace. He said: “Bruno was on the pitch and Scott McTominay was on the pitch, so there are some players returning. But also I have to report that unfortunately, yesterday, Mason Mount fell out [of contention]. So he will not be available for Sunday.”

Mount has already missed many months of action for United in his debut campaign after sustaining a nasty injury back in November. Ten Hag further added on the midfielder’s situation, noting: “It’s not that I am not happy with Mason [Mount]. He is also a very robust player, you see in his profile. In the last four seasons before this, he only had a small issue in the end of his Chelsea career. He’s had very bad luck and he’s a really good player. We’ve really missed him this season.”
On top of this, the Dutchman has also confirmed that Luke Shaw has sustained a setback in his attempts to recover from an injury before the final stretch of fixtures. He revealed: “Luke Shaw had a setback in his process as well but there is still a hope and he will fight to be available for the final.”
How Many Matches Has Mount Missed In Debut Campaign For United?
In his first term away from Chelsea, the English midfielder has been harassed by persistent injury problems. He has already missed 27 matches for the Red Devils and now that number is only going to get bigger after this latest setback.

Mount, who was hailed as a “top professional” last season, has just not been able to hit the ground running since getting the number seven shirt at Old Trafford. He has only made 19 appearances for the Red Devils in his debut campaign, which includes only eight starts. He has scored one goal and provided one assist across all competitions, with this latest injury signalling the potential end of an embarrassing first year at United for the midfielder.
