United had a key defender back at their disposal when Martinez finally made his comeback in January. But their joy was short-lived as he suffered a serious knee injury after playing only three matches.
The Argentine international was initially ruled out for the season. But Erik ten Hag has recently suggested he could return to action in the final weeks of the campaign.
Why Is Martinez Named in Argentina’s Squad?
On Tuesday, Lionel Scaloni announced his Argentina squad for friendly matches against El Salvador and Costa Rica. Surprisingly, the manager included Martinez’s name in his 26-man list despite the defender’s injury.
According to ESPN, Scaloni wants the Manchester United star to continue his rehab process close to his Argentina teammates despite being unable to play. Already preparing his team for the Copa America, the manager wants his key players to reunite in the upcoming international break.

As United prepare to make a final push in the Premier League’s top-four race, Erik ten Hag is expected to have a few key stars back at his disposal.
