Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield on March 10 as they seek to extend their gap to four points ahead of the Champions. Here, Last Word on Football looks at the best odds and prediction of the outcome of Liverpool vs Manchester City.

Liverpool vs. Manchester City: Prediction and Best Odds

Liverpool Current Run of Form

Liverpool come into the game in a fine run of form, having won their last seven matches in all competitions and have registered just one defeat in 2024.

The Reds’ most recent outing was a 5-1 win over Sparta Prague in the Europa League, which all but booked their place in the quarter-finals, whilst, in the league, a dramatic 99th-minute winner from Darwin Nunez saw them collect all three points at Nottingham Forest last time out.

Prior to that, Jurgen Klopp’s men had prevailed in the two domestic cup competitions, beating Southampton in the FA Cup to book a mouth-watering quarter-final clash with Manchester United, as well as picking up silverware at Wembley when defeating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.

Manchester City Current Run of Form

Manchester City’s form is equally impressive, having won their last five in all competitions, and the Cityzens have only dropped points once since December 16, which came in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea in mid-February.

Guardiola’s side ran out as comfortable 3-1 winners in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League tie with FC Copenhagen last time out, a mirror result of the first leg to send them through 6-2 on aggregate.

That result followed another 3-1 win in the Manchester derby on March 3, where Phil Foden’s impressive form continued with the English midfielder netting twice whilst the ever-threatening Erling Haaland was on target four times in the 6-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup.

There were some slightly trickier clashes as City overcame Brentford and Bournemouth by just one goal at the end of February, with Foden and Haaland shining again by scoring respective winners.

Recent Head-to-Head

The last meeting between the two sides came at the Etihad in November, with points shared after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 80th-minute strike cancelled out Haaland’s opener. The home side had the better of the play that day but were in the middle of a slightly ropey period with that clash coming in a spell of four league games without a win, a rare occurrence for City under Guardiola.

All of the last three fixtures between the teams have been in Manchester, with City winning the other two 4-1 and 3-2 – however, the last match at Anfield was won by Liverpool thanks to a 76th-minute goal from Mohamed Salah.

It’s a ground that the away side have struggled at, with just one win in 21 years, which came in February 2021 with Guardiola’s men running out as 4-1 winners. Since Klopp arrived at the Reds, his home record against Sunday’s opposition reads as played nine, won six, drawn two, and lost one.

Liverpool vs. Manchester City Prediction

When these two meet, it is often much safer to back the home side. Each team has just one win at their opponent’s ground since Klopp and Guardiola have been in office.

This also presents a rare opportunity for Liverpool in that every other genuine title race they have been in with Manchester City, they have met at Anfield in the first half of the season and had to travel to the Etihad in the second half of the campaign. They will see this as a golden opportunity to create a gap going into the final ten games of the season.

It would be crazy to write City off, even with their troublesome record at the home of the six-time European Cup winners, and they are still favourites with bookmakers to win this one.

It’s a hard one to call, and these games can often end up like chess matches, with both managers putting in special measures to deal with the quality of the opposition. Considering both defences have shown signs of vulnerability of late, expect goals in this one.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-2 Manchester City

Current Best Odds: Liverpool Vs Manchester City

Liverpool – 135/67

Draw – 3/1
