Whatever happened to Theo Corbeanu?
Wolves fans could be forgiven for forgetting that the young Canadian was still on their books. The 21-year-old, who was born in Ontario but is of Romanian extraction, was picked up the Black County club’s scouts in 2021 when he was playing for the Toronto FC academy.
He made a big impression upon entering The Wanderers’ academy, forcing his way into several first-team squads and making his Premier League debut in a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in May 2021.

His good form earned him a series of caps for the Canadian National Team in the same year, scoring on his debut in a 5-1 demolition of Bermuda.
Things went sour for the youngster after that. Loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons and Blackpool, the winger struggled to settle and impact games. The club tried to reinvigorate his career with a change of scenery, sending him to Arminia Bielefeld, and then on to partner side Grasshoppers Zurich, which until recently was part-owned by directors of Fosun. This Chinese conglomerate also owns Wolves.
What does the transfer mean for Wolves?
The Molineux faithful might be surprised to see Corbeanu leave for a top-tier league, but will not be surprised to see the back of him. Having not played in old gold for many years, his loss will not be felt particularly at the club.

However, the permanent transfer might free up some headroom for expenditure as the window grinds to a close. The transfer fee is undisclosed, but is unlikely to be substantial. Nevertheless, the winger’s departure can at the very least be seen as a clearing of deadwood.
