‘Could Cost More Than £100 Million’: Chelsea Identify ‘Incredible’ Young Star As Long-Term Striker Target

Chelsea have struggled with a severe lack of clinicality in the first season under Mauricio Pochettino, leaving them in 10th place in the Premier League table and suffering a poor 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-finals first leg. Due to this, it appears that the Blues are still considering the possibility of signing Brighton & Hove Albion star Evan Ferguson.

How Much Will Chelsea Need To Pay For Ferguson?

The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella has reported that the London heavyweights are considering the Republic of Ireland forward as a long-term transfer target that they are interested in signing. It is added that his profile fits the youth-first approach that Chelsea have developed in recent years and that they won’t have to break their wage structure for him either.

Kinsella claims that Ferguson is likely to demand a £100,000-a-week salary, half of what other rumoured target Victor Osimhen could look for in order to join them. However, he adds that the Seagulls will resist any move for the teenage forward as they don’t want to lose another player to Chelsea, which could be a stumbling block.

On top of this, the journalist states that it “could cost more than £100 million” for Mauricio Pochettino’s side to sign Ferguson, who only recently signed a new contract until 2029 with Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Chelsea Share Strong Working Ties With Brighton

The Londoners have frequently worked with Brighton over the last few years, bringing in players, coaches and recruitment members. Last summer itself they were able to sign goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and midfielder Moises Caicedo (for a club-record fee too) and have paid over £200 million to the Seagulls over the last three transfer windows.

That is why Chelsea can sign Ferguson if they really want to get him. Considering how they’ve paid over £100 million for Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, the fee isn’t anything unheard of for them. The 19-year-old striker, who was hailed for his “incredible” performance improvement last year, has scored six goals in 18 Premier League appearances this season and already has a decent amount of Premier League experience.
