‘There Is Big Optimism’: Arsenal to Secure ‘World-Class’ Star’s Signature Amid Interest From Serie A Clubs

Arsenal head into a busy January transfer window with the intention to strengthen the squad ahead of a tough title race in the Premier League. As per Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are close to finalising a contract extension with a key member of the squad, Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Talks Advancing to Final Stages

As per Romano, conversations between the Gunners and the representatives of Tomiyasu are advancing to the final stages, and the defender looks set to sign a contract that would keep him at the Emirates Stadium long-term. The versatile defender has enjoyed a tremendous start to the season under Mikel Arteta, despite the reoccurrence of injuries.

The transfer insider further adds that Arsenal consider the 25-year-old to be a key part of their plans and that there is big optimism regarding his future. Getting the contract extension over the line would be a fantastic piece of business for the London-based outfit.

Arsenal Rejected Interest From Italy

Romano further adds that Arsenal were unwilling to let the talented defender go in the summer despite interest from a host of Serie A clubs. AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, and Napoli were among the clubs looking to add the Japanese international to their ranks. However, the Gunners rejected any potential deal for the former Bologna man.

Tomiyasu, who was hailed as “world-class” by his Arsenal teammate Ben White, is currently set to represent Japan at the 2024 Asian Cup to be held this month. Romano goes on to say that there will be further talks in the coming days and weeks to finalise the fine details of the contract extension.

Arsenal fans in the meantime would be hoping that their defender makes a swift, safe, and successful return from the Asian Cup and aid them in their quest for silverware.
