Chelsea are still on a quest to reach their previous heights as a perennial competitor in European football. The Blues were regular English title contenders and won several Champions League trophies, but in recent years they have struggled to compete at the top level. Mauricio Pochettino will oversee his first full transfer window in January. The Argentine plans to be heavily involved in the club’s decisions.

Pochettino ‘Adamant He Will Play a Key Role’ In January Transfer Business
Matt Law has revealed that Pochettino will have an increased presence in the Chelsea front office heading into January through an article for The Telegraph. The Argentine is reportedly “adamant he will play a key role in incomings and outgoings.” In contrast, the Blues’ previous manager Graham Potter, was not heavily involved in the player arrivals and departures.
For those wondering if Pochettino would emulate Potter’s approach, the former Tottenham manager put an end to all doubts. “It’s crazy to think I will not be involved in Chelsea’s January business,” he said. Chelsea have not hinted at many targets to bring in this winter, but several players could be on their way out.

Chelsea ‘Ready to Listen’ to Transfer Offers
Chelsea are understood to be ready to listen to offers for Trevor Chalobah and Ian Maatsen, the latter of which was on loan to Burnley last season and was a key target for manager Vincent Kompany. A bid for Connor Gallagher would also be considered, with the majority of players on the chopping block being young players who have been unable to solidify a role in Pochettino’s starting lineup. The Blues, though, are not just focused on offloading players.
Chelsea have big plans for January. Fees used from outgoing players could further their pursuit of various transfer targets. According to Law, the Blues “are looking at the possibility of making two or three first-team signings.” A goalscorer could be at the top of the club’s list.
Ivan Toney had been linked to a potential Stamford Bridge move, but a high transfer fee could deter Brentford from receiving a suitable offer. There have also been reports that Arsenal are eyeing a move for the striker, who is suspended from football until January, as Gabriel Jesus has only four goals in the Premier League so far.
