Jurgen Klopp has led Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League table. The Reds, in addition to their strong start in the English top flight, are also top of their Europa League group. Squad depth will play a key role in maintaining their success. According to Fabrizio Romano, there may be another player returning to Anfield in January.

Decision to Be Made Soon
Fabio Carvalho could reportedly be on his way back to England soon. His loan to Leipzig was aimed at getting the young winger playing time in a top league, but the German outfit have limited his time on the pitch. The Italian journalist stated that Liverpool were “not happy” with the 21-year-old’s loan, which limits him mainly to appearances as a substitute.

A January return for Carvalho looks possible, with Romano reporting that the “decision on next steps to be made soon.” The Portuguese youngster scored twice in 13 Premier League matches last season. His return, should an agreement be made, would provide additional squad depth. Arranging another loan deal so quickly would be unlikely for Liverpool.

Carvalho’s Road to the Top
Carvalho began his youth football career in Benfica’s famed academy. His talents were noticed and eventually brought him to London, where he would graduate from Fulham’s academy and start playing for the senior team. He scored ten goals in 2021/22, helping the Cottagers secure promotion back to the English top flight.
Liverpool purchased Carvalho in the summer of 2022. Often used as a sub, the young winger was able to make a big impact in several games. Notably, his match-winner against Newcastle only a few months after arriving in Anfield truly put his name out there. Unable to secure a starting role he was loaned to Leipzig, but with playing time still scarce the Portuguese footballer could take the pitch as a Red in January.
