Brighton are coming to the end of this year currently sitting eighth in the Premier League table. The Seagulls are one point behind sixth place and are looking to make a good run of form before the winter break. According to Sami Mokbel, however, they will have to do that without a pivotal member of their staff.

Recent Departure
Mokbel tweeted the news Tuesday afternoon, stating that Adam Brett had left the club. Described as “a key member of Roberto De Zerbi’s staff,” the head of Brighton’s medical and performance departments had spent time with the RFU and at Gloucester Rugby. The Englishman had been with the Seagulls since 2014.

Further details, and praise, were reported by the journalist in his article for The Daily Mail. Brett is believed to have left his role “in recent weeks.” Brighton have not commented at the moment as to any reason why their longtime staff member has departed. For now, the Seagulls are on the hunt for a new doctor to care for their first team.

Brett quickly rose through the ranks during his time at Amex Stadium. After joining in 2014, he was promoted to head of medical services in less than a year. 2020 saw him “appointed head of medical and performance,” as Brighton began to establish themselves as a Premier League regular, and a future challenger for the European positions.

Brighton’s Upcoming Matches
The domestic and continental campaigns continue for the Seagulls, even as Brett’s departure deprives them of a veteran presence in the medical rooms. A victory on Thursday against Marseille would see De Zerbi’s squad top their Europa League group as they seek the club’s first European trophy. Meanwhile, a trip to Arsenal awaits Brighton at the weekend.
