Manchester United have not had the best defensive record to start the 2023/24 season, only being able to keep a handful of clean sheets. This seems to have inspired the Red Devils to start searching for a new centre-back to sign in 2024.

Can United Make a Move for Todibo in January?
Fabrizio Romano has stated that the “really like” OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo after seeing him have a great start to the new season in Ligue 1. He has inspired his side to go unbeaten in their first 10 matches of the league campaign and be among the top sides in France.
Todibo has made nine appearances in the league so far in which Nice have kept seven clean sheets. Romano reveals that United had thought about the possibility of signing the 23-year-old in the previous summer transfer window and that the French side demanded just under £40 million back then.
However, the journalist reiterates that they are expected to demand much more than that going forward after their amazing start to the new campaign. It is also stated that we’ll have to wait and see if United invest in a new defender in the upcoming January transfer window or next summer.
Who Are the Other Players Being Scouted by United?
Romano has also named a few other young centre-backs that are being scouted by the Premier League heavyweights ahead of the January transfer window. He states that Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva, named a “super talented centre-back” by the Italian journalist, is one being scouted. Another is Sporting CP centre-back Goncalo Inacio, who is a technical left-footed defender.

The Red Devils suffered a blow in their defensive options with last year’s prolific signing Lisandro Martinez being ruled out for a few months with a foot injury. It appears that they have a keen admiration for Todibo, who was hailed as a “very, very talented player” by ex-Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey earlier his year.
