Fresh off the £53 million sale of Matheus Nunes to Manchester City, Wolverhampton are looking to use that money to bring in suitable replacements. One player they have set their eyes on is Strasbourg midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

Wanderers Also Targeting Player’s Teammate

According to Simon Jones‘ article for The Daily Mail, Wolves have already had offers for Bellegarde, as well as his teammate Habib Diarri, rejected by Strasbourg. Currently, the two clubs are “in talks” that could bring both players to Molineux Stadium on deadline day.

It is believed that there is a better chance that Wolves complete the signing of the “world-class” Bellegarde. The 25-year-old, who is an excellent player on the ball, provided nine assists in last year’s Ligue 1 campaign with Strasbourg.

Agreement Reached?

Simon Stone of BBC Sort reported that the English outfit have reached an agreement with the French side. If true, “the deal is believed to be worth” around £13 million. A fraction of what the Wanderers pocketed when they sold Nunes to the Citizens.

Stone also stated that Wolves officials had traveled to France in order to expedite the move. Time is running out on the summer transfer window, as clubs race to add or offload players. The Premier League side will want to secure Bellegarde as quickly as possible.

Wolves Season So Far

One win in three games marks the Wanderers’ start to the domestic campaign. A bitterly contested one-goal loss to Manchester United started the season off on the wrong foot. It was followed by a 4-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, which showed the need for a playmaker like Bellegarde.

Wolves did win their last match in the English top flight, though, a narrow victory over last-placed Everton. That was followed by a romp of Blackpool in the EFL Cup, and suddenly the squad looks completely different. Still, no chances are going to be taken, and the Wanderers will do their best to get the Bellegarde signing done today and add this wonderful footballer.
