The Athletic’s Adam Leventhal reports that Tottenham Hotspur’s £20 million bid for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly has been rejected by the club. The North London side had a long-standing interest in the player but have not met the South Coast side’s valuation.

£20 Million Bid for Lloyd Kelly Rejected
Fabrizio Romano reported that no ‘formal bid’ had been made till the deadline day and that the interest was not concrete, but with Spurs looking to strengthen in defence, Leventhal confirms a bid has now been submitted.

That Spurs interest is now very much concrete but Bournemouth have said no to the deal and Leventhal confirms that the South Coast club’s valuation is not the same as the North London side’s.

The lack of time it would leave for the Cherries to find a replacement is also a factor in the decision to reject the bid.
A Versatile Defender
Kelly is a defender who can play as a center-back and left-back and joined Bournemouth after spending eight years with Bristol City. His versatility means he would be a good option in both areas of the defence.

The Englishman started the Premier League game against his potential suitors in the Premier League, in a match that Spurs won 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola picked Kelly ahead of Marcos Sensei for that game, referring to the players’ pace as a key factor in that selection. Before the game, he told the local press that: “I think Lloyd can give us this physicality and he can help us when we have the ball.’
Tottenham fans would be eagerly waiting to see their club get this deal over the line.
