Lukaku’s Chelsea career has been something of an enigma, and never hit the heights that many expected of him. He has been in and out of the London club on a revolving door basis, and since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, it has been clear that he is not part of the Argentinian’s plans.

Chelsea brought the Belgian striker back to the club from Inter Milan in a £97.5 million deal that saw his return to the club where he first played between 2011-2014, albeit with most of his game time being away from Chelsea. That return move never worked, and Chelsea are now struggling to find ways to get money back on that outlay in 2021.

Romelu Lukaku and Jose Mourinho to Reunite Once More

Once the loan deal has been finalised, it will reunite Jose Mourinho and Lukaku, who worked together at Manchester United and Chelsea. Lukaku was a popular striker for Inter Milan, and now Roma fans will be hoping he can bring them success domestically and in Europe.

Speaking to the sports TV network DAZN on Saturday, August 26, Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini was giving little away about the impending arrival of Lukaku in Rome;

“I don’t know what Lukaku would bring, but there are those who are working to make it happen. When it will be done, then we’ll see what he can bring, otherwise, it’s like talking about any player in the world.”

Romano also reported that the loan deal between the clubs – will be around £4.3 million. There is optimism on all sides that a deal can be agreed – but it still leaves the long-term future of Lukaku looking uncertain. The Belgian international reportedly earns 350k per week under his Chelsea contract.
