David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported that West Ham United have reached an agreement with Southampton for the signing of James Ward-Prowse. The Hammers have been linked with several midfielders in the transfer market and the Englishman could be on his way to the London Stadium soon.

As the summer transfer window heats up, the London-based outfit have been in active pursuit of the Southampton midfielder. The Hammers have finally reached an agreement for the 28-year-old playmaker, signaling their intent to bolster their squad before the transfer window closes.

Ornstein reports that the Irons will pay a transfer fee of £30 million to the Saints and that the set-piece specialist is expected to sign a four-year deal running until the summer of 2027.

Another reliable journalist, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the personal terms between the player and the club. The Italian reported that the Claret and Blue outfit have agreed personal terms with Ward-Prowse. The club officials will now move on to preparing and checking the documents and the medical will be booked in the coming days.

Southampton Were Keen on Keeping Him

The Englishman has been at the club since the beginning of his career and is now set for a move away. The midfield “maestro” has been a key fixture in the Saints’ side for several years now, performing at the highest level.

The club playing at Saint Mary’s Stadium were keen on keeping their prized asset for the upcoming season, however, according to reports, this window could mark the end of Ward-Prowse’s journey with the club. This could be a big blow to fellow Londoners, Tottenham Hotspur, who were also interested in the midfielder.

The 28-year-old has contributed significantly in his time with the Saints, making 410 appearances, and accumulating impressive stats of 55 goals and 54 assists.

West Ham’s Transfer Activity

The departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal has left a void in their midfield, one which they are keen to fill before the season kickstarts. The UEFA Conference League champions are also targeting other targets to upgrade their midfield.
