Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea have finally signed their man. Monaco defender and French national team player Axel Disasi will be moving to England as the two clubs have agreed on a fee for him. Additionally, the new side and Frenchman have agreed on a personal contract.
Santi Aouna has also chimed in to confirm that the team has “sealed the agreement” for the player signalling that the move is all but official.
The deal will, including bonuses, cost the Blues around £43 million. Disasi will be tied to Stamford Bridge until 2028, and there is an option to extend the contract by one year according to both sources. The Italian journalist remarks that a “medical [is] booked” meaning it is only a matter of time until the 25-year-old from the suburbs of Paris is unveiled in London.

Chelsea Set to Acquire Another Target In Axel Disasi
Experienced Defender
With eight years of experience in France’s top two divisions already behind him, Disasi comes to the Premier League awaiting a new challenge. More important than that, though, is the playing time the defender has gained with the French national team.

After raking the field in the final moments of extra time, the defender did not have an opportunity to take a penalty kick as France fell to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup Final. Such a heartbreaking loss no doubt helped him grow throughout the next six months, and earn him the big move he is close to making.
Key Defender And Key Scorer
The one-time Manchester United target, although Romano notes no bid was made by the Red Devils, has shown his defensive skills are hard to manoeuvre past. At 6’3″ the big man is also hard to outmuscle. In an era where strikers now seem to be favoured against centre-backs in most duels, the French defender possesses the key physical and mental attributes to potentially shut down some world-class attackers.
These tools have caused some to consider the player a “physical monster“. Something that will be appreciated in a squad currently lacking in physicality and strength.

Disasi, who plays primarily on the right side of the centre-back pairing, can also score goals. His presence on set pieces makes him a must-cover target, but his size and agility can be too much for opposing defences to contain, and in two club seasons in Europe’s continental competitions he has scored five goals.
Learning Curve Or Full Steam Ahead For Disasi?
Disasi has been targeted to either start as a defender or be the primary defensive rotation option. Normally a lack of Premier League experience suggests that a player might need time to adjust to the new surroundings, but with 38-year-old Thiago Silva as Chelsea’s current right-centre-back, the Frenchman is looking to confidently slide into a starting role on another major European team.
Another Summer Signing
While this deal was likely caused by the injury to Wesley Fofana, the move is one of many to take place at Stamford Bridge this summer. A number of players have exited the club in the current offseason with Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson brought in alongside the likes of Angelo and Diego Moreira.
