‘Next Hours/Days’: ‘Fantastic’ Tottenham Target Now ‘Ready to Leave’ Club; Official £40m Bid Already Made by West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur are the Favourites to Sign Ansu Fati

Tottenham Hotspur are firmly in the race to sign midfielder Conor Gallagher from rivals Chelsea in the summer, confirms The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella. This comes amid reports that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is keen on a summer move to Atletico Madrid.

Following this, Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday evening that West Ham United have made an official £40 million bid for the player, with Chelsea now expected to hold discussions over his future in the “next hours/days”.

Spurs Face Premier League Competition for Gallagher

Even though he has impressed for the Blues in pre-season, scoring in their recent friendly games against Brighton and Wrexham under Mauricio Pochettino, Gallagher is reportedly “ready to leave” Stamford Bridge.

As per Kinsella, the Lilywhites face stiff competition from London rivals West Ham United for the 23-year-old. The Hammers are eyeing him as one of the two midfielders they want to sign after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal earlier this month.

He also states that Spurs are looking to sign more homegrown players and perceive the Englishman as a potential replacement for Hojbjerg if they are forced to sell the Danish international to the La Liga club.

The North London side have already signed one quality midfielder, James Maddison from Leicester City, this summer. Still, they seem willing to continue the transformation under new boss Ange Postecoglou by roping in the energetic Chelsea man.

How Can Gallagher Fit In at Tottenham?

It has been stated that Gallagher is deemed “surplus to requirements” at Stamford Bridge, but he could be a solid squad player for Postecoglou’s men. The Chelsea academy graduate, who was hailed as “fantastic” by Graham Potter last season, is a hard-working and efficient midfielder who can play in multiple roles.

He earned his breakthrough in the Premier League during his loan spell with Crystal Palace in the 2021/22 season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists for them in 39 appearances.

Gallagher can play in a variety of roles, including deeper or advanced midfield positions and even as a winger if needed. He can add more flexibility to Spurs’ midfield and help them press opposition sides as well, but it remains to be seen if the club can beat West Ham in the race.
