After Fofana Injury: Chelsea Considering Move for £50 Million-Rated ‘Absolute Tank’ Following Defensive Blow

Stamford Bridge - Gabriel Moscardo.

Chelsea are interested in a possible reunion with Marc Guehi by signing him back from Crystal Palace, claims the Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella. The Blues are on the lookout for defensive options after Wesley Fofana was forced to undergo surgery for a nasty knee injury.

Chelsea Could Pay Top Money for Guehi

The 23-year-old centre-back is a product of the Blues’ youth academy, but he got sold to the Eagles back in 2021 after failing to earn a spot in their first team. He has since gone on to become a regular for the Premier League side and made 37 appearances in the league for them last season.

Kinsella states that Chelsea are assessing their options in the centre-back area after Fofana’s injury and are considering the possibility of bringing back Guehi. However, it is also added that Palace will not entertain any discounts and are going to demand a £50 million fee to let him leave.

It is also reported that the Englishman will want to be a regular starter for any side he joins in the summer window. This is something that Mauricio Pochettino’s side might not be able to guarantee with the likes of Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah all vying for places in the defensive line.

What Has Guehi Done Since Stamford Bridge Exit?

Ever since he left Chelsea in 2021, the defender has soared in the Premier League. He helped the Eagles keep eight clean sheets in the league last season, despite them only managing a finish at the bottom half of the competition.

Guehi has already made 82 appearances for Palace in his two years with them, scoring five goals as well. He has also been able to break into the England national team squad and feature four times for Gareth Southgate’s men. The Englishman, who was hailed as an ‘absolute tank’ by England U-21 teammate Josek Bursik a few years ago for his physical power, is also reportedly attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur over a summer switch.
