Fans Betrayed – £11 Million Leeds United Player Expected to Join European Finalists After Telling Club He Would ‘Stand By’ Them

Elland Road Stadium - Rasmus Kristensen

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen is in advanced talks to leave Elland Road, with Roma being his expected destination. This comes just weeks after the right-back told fans that he would be willing to “stand by” the club in the Championship.

Rasmus Kristensen Set to Move to Roma from Leeds United

Why is Rasmus Kristensen Leaving?

There are a few reasons the Dane might be looking for a move away from Elland Road, with the first being the chance of a better standard of football. Jose Mourinho’s side secured a position in a European final next season, and even without the allure of the Champions League drawing him to Italy, the standard of Serie A is far higher than that in the Championship.

Money could also be a factor. With I Giallorossi having secured European football again next season whilst still being in the top division, they can likely pay far higher wages than the Whites. This is especially the case when The Telegraph reported that every single Leeds United player has a relegation wage drop clause in their contracts.

Why are Leeds United Fans Betrayed?

Leeds United fans might be justified in their anger at Rasmus Kristensen, as this shows that the Dane misled fans and the club in a recent statement. As seen in the video above, there is a lot that needs to be sorted out at Elland Road, and any certainty that the club could generate is essential. By changing his mind and potentially leaving for Italy, Kristensen adds even more pressure on the new ownership.

Aside from the uncertainty, this provides another player for the side to replace. With Diego Llorente also reportedly finding his way to the Italian capital for the coming season, 49ers Enterprises have a significant rebuild job to complete before the Whites invite Cardiff on the opening day of the season.
