According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are not finished in this transfer window after the signing of Alexis Mac Allister. The update from Romano mentions the Reds are looking to further strengthen their midfield, and have been following Nicolo Barella.
Liverpool ‘Will Sign’ Another Midfielder This Summer
Liverpool continue to follow Nicolo Barella
Romano mentions that following the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool will sign at least one more important midfielder this summer. The red side of Merseyside have been linked to other midfielders this summer, including Khephren Thuram. The report also mentions that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Nicolo Barella, and Liverpool have been following the player. Recent reports have linked Newcastle with a move for the Italian international. However, in the latest update from Romano, he suggests that despite the reports of Newcastle pushing hard for Barella, there has been no official bid submitted to Inter Milan for the midfielder.

It seems, according to Romano, that Barella is unlikely to be available for £50 million. Jurgen Klopp’s team have recently released some midfield squad players, including James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita – which has left the club short-handed in midfield.
How Barella Could Improve Liverpool
It appears Liverpool admire Barella, as they have been following the 26-year-old Italian midfielder for some time. It remains to be seen if the Merseyside giants will make an official approach for the Italian international. If they decide to sign a player of Barella’s calibre, he would be a great addition to the Anfield midfield alongside Mac Allister.

Barella is an exceptional midfielder and arguably one of the best deep-lying playmakers in Europe. He also provides a goal threat, which he has shown at club and international level. He is comfortable receiving the ball in tight areas and rarely looks flustered. His work rate is one of his best attributes, alongside his creativity and flair, which would make him a fan favourite at Anfield.
