Manchester United have held details talks with Atalanta over the prospect of signing their young striker Rasmus Hojlund in the summer window, claims The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell. The Red Devils are reported to be prioritizing the signing of a new centre-forward to improve their squad next season.

The Red Devils share a good relationship with the Serie A club, having signed young winger Amad Diallo from them in 2021. It’s stated that United’s Football Director John Murtough has stepped up their pursuit of summer targets since the Red Devils secured Champions League football for next season.

Whitwell also claims that the Manchester giants held talks with Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani over a move, but out of the two, the signing of Hojlund is more likely at this stage with reports suggesting that Bayern Munich are also in the race for Muani. Murtough has spoken to Atalanta multiple times over the prospect of signing the young Danish striker, with the Italian club open to the prospect of selling him for the right price.
Moreover, the Manchester Evening News reports that Erik ten Hag has personally held multiple video calls with Hojlund ahead of United making a move to sign him. The agency that represents the Dutch gaffer is also trying to recruit Hojlund, which can further strengthen the Red Devils’ chances of signing him
How Can Hojlund Fit In at Old Trafford?
It appears that the Manchester side are trying to get their transfer deals done quickly in this summer window amid reports that they have also agreed personal terms with Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and are expected to sign him. Hojlund, who has been described as ‘Erling Haaland 2.0‘ – can add some much-needed thurst and goal output for the Reds Devils’ attack.

The 20-year-old striker enjoyed an impressive campaign with Atalanta in 2022/23, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in 41 appearances for them. He has been likened to Haaland by Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini himself, who has also claimed that the Danish forward is extremely quick and can cover 100 metres in 11 seconds.
Hojlund is physical, quick, and boasts impressive finishing skills – which would make him an ideal fit in Ten Hag’s exciting attacking line at Old Trafford.
