German Coach on Five-Man Shortlist

Chelsea have held a first round of talks with Nagelsmann, according to the report from The Sunday Times. The recently dismissed Bayern Munich manager is reportedly on a shortlist of potential candidates for the Stamford Bridge hot seat and has been vetted by the club’s recruitment team.

The ex-Bayern coach has been described by Argentina national team head coach Lionel Scaloni as a “great coach.” His CV also stands up to scrutiny after he took TSG Hoffenheim to the Champions League in addition to guiding Leipzig to a seemingly unlikely Champions League semi-final. He also ensured they pushed Bayern for the Bundesliga title in the following season.

Bayern are struggling to retain the league title, with Dortmund breathing down their necks. The increased pressure from their rivals seemingly led to the club parting ways with Nagelsmann.

He encourages rotations between his players, and this evolution occurred at Leipzig, where his players excelled in their movement off the ball, making them a nightmare to track and play against. He then used a 4-2-3-1 formation at Bayern Munich, where the wide players stayed very wide, which created space for the number 10, and the striker to exploit.

Naglesmann’s teams always seem to press well from wide areas and from the lone striker position, where they look to press the opposition and steal the ball back. It seems there will be more twists and turns in Chelsea’s search for a new manager, but it appears the German coach is very much in the frame.
