Mikel Arteta Wants Nelson to Stay
Nelson joined Arsenal in 2007 and spent his entire youth career with them. Romano adds that he understands that the Gunners have started talks with the English winger’s representatives to find an agreement over a contract extension.

It is further stated that Mikel Arteta would be happy to keep him as part of his squad for the future. This is even though the Arsenal manager has mostly used him as an impact substitute for the majority of his side’s memorable season in which they’re favourites to clinch the Premier League title.
Romano also adds that multiple European clubs are interested in signing Nelson on a free transfer if he runs down his contract with Arsenal and becomes a free agent in the summer window. His current deal expires in June and it remains to be seen if he can be convinced to stay on at his childhood club for the foreseeable future.
Nelson Enjoying His Most Prolific Season Yet With Arsenal
The 23-year-old winger has had an eventful career so far, in which he spent the 2018/19 and 2021/22 seasons on loan at Bundesliga side Hoffenheim and Dutch club Feyenoord after failing to break into the Arsenal squad.
However, he’s been retained as a part of the senior squad for this season and has had some memorable moments with the Gunners in arguably his most prolific season yet at the Emirates Stadium. Nelson’s best moment came in Arsenal’s thrilling 3-2 win over Bournemouth in March, where he assisted a goal and scored a thrilling winner in added time to boost their Premier League title charge.

Nelson, who has been hailed as Arsenal’s “most impactful substitute” by ex-teammate Alex Iwobi, has scored three goals and provided three assists in just 11 appearances this season – out of which he’s only started in five games.
