Romano now states that a deal that will see Paez join Chelsea is now close to being complete and the Premier League side are nearing a verbal agreement with the Ecuadorian outfit for the signing of the ‘gem’. It is also added that the 15-year-old will only be able to officially join the club when he turns 18 – due to new Brexit rules on football.
Who Is Paez?
Chelsea are trusting the information of their South American scouts to make a move for Paez, who has played in Ecuador all his life – but has been attracting attention from European sides because of his impressive performances at a youth level.
Romano himself terms him as “one of the best talents in South America” – which is an indication of how highly-rated the 15-year-old really is. Paez can play in a number of roles in midfield and has made five appearances for Ecuador’s U17 national team – scoring one goal and providing two assists in that. Chelsea have been impressed with what they saw in him and are now reported to be close to signing him – even though he can’t play for them before 2025.

The Blues appear to be strongly continuing their transfer activity even after splurging in the January transfer window, where they signed eight new players, including young Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos. Chelsea are now reported to send Santos on loan to Palmeiras, indicating that they only plan on using them in the future – which should also be the same case for Paez too.
