Optimism Around N’Golo Kante Contract Extension

The Blues have not been able to field the midfielder that often this season, mostly due to a horrible injury he suffered in August forcing him to miss the World Cup. The Frenchman recently returned to first-team training but has not played a game for them since August.

Romano adds that Chelsea are now quite optimistic that they’ll be able to get a deal done and convince the midfielder to sign a new deal with them. However, for the time being, the stumbling block over a potential agreement is how long the contract will be. Both parties are currently talking about the length of the deal, Romano also states.

The 31-year-old midfielder is well-paid by the Blues in his current deal and earns a rumoured £290,000 per week. He is highly valued at Stamford Bridge after having won all the major trophies with Chelsea since arriving from Leicester City in 2016.

Kante Wants Chelsea Stay

Romano also claims that a major factor in the entire negotiation process and the reason behind the London side’s optimism is that Kante is eager to stay at Chelsea beyond this season. He wants to sign a new deal because he has fallen in love with the club and is waiting for the final details to be completed before signing the new contract.

The Frenchman has made 262 appearances for Chelsea in his career, scoring 13 goals and providing 15 assists.
